[Jesus Christ] ...who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear [Hebrews 5:7 NKJV]

If our Lord Jesus Christ, the Perfect, Sinless, All-powerful and Only-wise God-man could not do without prayer, certainly no one can.
The world is a weary place. No Christian can successfully navigate it without the leverage of prayer.
Hence, we pray because Jesus prayed.
